Benefits of an Internship with Krile Communications

By: Gabby York, Krile Communications Intern

Gaining real-world experience

One of the biggest benefits of interning at a consulting company is the diverse client base you work with. With Krile, I've had the opportunity to learn what attracts different customers and what they would like to learn about the company or service they are interacting with on social media. I like to look back at what posts performed well and find ways to create new content that will have even more interaction.

Gaining confidence

I have gained more confidence in myself as a professional and in my ideas by helping clients bring their visions to life. Working with Aaron Uhl, Founder of Lancaster Brewfest, was such a cool experience. He always validated my ideas and let me have a lot of creative freedom when creating social media content for the 2022 Lancaster Brewfest. I learned so much about marketing toward a narrower market of people and how to create content they enjoyed.

Gaining professional skills

One of the opportunities I had as an intern this summer was to manage the social media for the Lancaster Festival. Being from Columbus, I did not have a lot of knowledge of the Festival and the impact it had on the people of Lancaster. I learned so much from the people I worked with and from interacting with Festival participants daily, which helped me gain more professionalism. I had so many opportunities to develop my professional skills, including an interview with “Elton Rohn: The Premier Elton John Tribute Show” in their trailer before the show. This was such an exquisite experience and put my professional skills to the test.

Expanding my network

Having a list of people who can vouch for you and understand how you perform as a professional is important in your everyday life. Knowing I have amazing women behind me who support my ideas and push me to be a better intern has been a huge benefit of my experience at Krile. Networking can also mean friendships, and I am so glad I got to intern with Braidyn Reed this summer and watch us both grow as professionals and individuals. Braidyn and I spent two weeks working 10–12 hour days with each other. There were some challenges, but it was so nice to have someone to relate to and laugh about the small mistakes we made, while also learning from them.

What I learned and how it helped with my career and education goals

Overall, I learned that my ideas are important and useful. It is so important as a college student to find your strengths and work on building them. I was worried I would leave college without knowing what I was passionate about. After this summer, I can confidently say that I have a passion for connecting with others through social media and creating things that catch people's attention to inform them about a certain topic, event, service, etc. By understanding my passions and career goals, I was able to take classes that help me expand my knowledge in those areas. I added a social media certificate and consumer research certificate to help me better understand consumers' wants and needs and how to attract them digitally.

My time at Krile has been nothing short of amazing and the women who work there always want the best for me and provide me with new opportunities to grow. Thank you, Angela Krile and the entire Krile team for an amazing summer internship experience!
